Settings are divided between General, Voice, Privacy, About, and Account.
General
Presence
mrmr stays out of sight until you summon it. These settings control how its overlay looks while you dictate or talk to the agent:
- Form — Grain orb or Aura field. Double-clicking the orb in the overlay switches between them too.
- Where it appears — Floating, a glass capsule at the bottom of the screen, or Notch, a black drop that extends your Mac’s notch. On a display without a notch, mrmr draws one at the top center.
- Glass — Match system, Light, or Dark for the floating capsule. It does not apply to the notch, which is always black.
- Demo mode displays “Dictating with mrmr” while the app is in use.
Startup
- Start at login opens mrmr when you sign in to your Mac.
- Show app in Dock keeps mrmr in the Dock after its main window closes.
Permissions
Review Microphone, Accessibility, and Screen Recording access, and open the relevant macOS controls when permission is missing. Microphone and Accessibility are required. Screen Recording is optional and only powers Agent Mode’s screen questions.
Agent Folder
Open or change the folder mrmr watches for local scripts.
Voice
The Voice page contains:
- Microphone selection, sensitivity, and input testing.
- Agent Mode hotkey and speaking voice.
- Dictation hotkey, live preview, voice processing, recording mute, auto-submit, what happens when you switch apps before the text is ready, and the paste-last shortcut.
- Dictation languages.
- Sound effects, with their style and volume, and trackpad haptics.
- Writing styles by app context.
- None, Light, Medium, and High polish levels.

About and updates
Open About to see and copy the installed app version, check for updates, toggle automatic updates, read What’s New, send feedback, or open mrmr links.
The sidebar also shows update status and provides a quick update action.
Command palette
Press ⌘ + K. Search for a page, change common settings, manage dictionary data, disconnect integrations, open the Agent Folder, create or import scripts, check for updates, send feedback, or open this manual.
Some destructive commands display a confirmation dialog.
Keyboard shortcut reference
Press Shift + / or select the keyboard icon at the bottom of the sidebar. The searchable dialog shows current voice hotkeys along with navigation, dictionary, and general app shortcuts.
Voice hotkeys shown there update when you change them under Voice.
